8/17/2024 Forgot How Special It Is TO Be Able To Fish Weekdays Versus The Weekend
Austin finished his first week of HS and so we are now forced to fish the weekends. Man retirement is special if for anything else besides being able to fish during the week when most people are at work. Launched at Main St. at 8:30. Slight falling tide, surface temp 88 F, and water looked like weak ice tea. Found some sacs at one spot and caught 6 keepers before they figured out that when one of them ate the jig they would disappear. So we had 6 keepers in less than 30 minutes. We then started hitting all our spots and found them vacant of decent size sacalait. The bayou had outboard motor foam stripes everywhere, which we never would see when fishing during the week. The endless parade of party barges, jet skiers and fisherman running over or near our best recruiting spots probably drove the big fish to the bottom in the grass or into open water. So we had it back on the trailer by 12. We returned to the scene of the crime, our original spot, on the way back to the launch and discovered the sacalait were no longer there either. Austin pitched out near the structure anyway and a blue cat inhaled the jig.
Austin cleaned the fish using the electric Bubba knife for the first time. There is nothing like fresh sacalait.
Another Paw Paw Adventure in the books.
Bon Temps!!
