Hey guys, I'm gonna be coming back to the promised land this weekend (8/9), and I'm wanting to do some nightstalking. Anybody been lately and had any luck? I'm wondering if it will be worth my while. I thought of trying to fish some of the channel drops in Pisgah Bay. Haven't given a game plan much more thought than that, though.
With the hotspell happening right now I don't know what you will catch. I talked to a buddy who does a lot of bass fishing on KY Lake at night and he says he is pulling a few here and there. Good luck to you.
I had to catch the boat for a couple of days and just got off today. I was just setting here thinking about nightstalking while I was getting on line and Pisgah popped into my head. Got on here and first post I read you're think'n Pisgah too. Might be a sign! :D I'm also think'n about the bridge piers at Egner Ferry Hwy Bridge and the drop offs at Big Bear. I'm probably gonna try somthing this coming week. This setting in the house under the air conditioning is kill'n me!Quote:

You're right about the depth. I think the only advantage that the piers would have is current. This time of year the fish depend on a little current to consentrate the bait fish and most of the piers on that old bridge are in and on the edge of the channel. I know that Ky lock has been running a little water during the day say around 18000 cfs. Pickwick usually runs upto around 80000 cfs during the day and then cuts off at night. That push of water should be causing a little current during the night.Quote:

Whiskers, Seymore came in my store today to chat. If you are out there you just may run into him. We decided this would be a great weekend on the water to watch the meteor shower if for nothing else. Give him a hollar if you run into him. he will running a Tracker with a 50 Merc I believe. Good boy, only bad thing about him I could say is he is going to be a lawyer when he gets his education done. Other than his choise of mothers and the lawyer thing I like the boy.

For the first set that I made, I ran out of Pisgah, turned up toward the dam, and went just a little ways up the lake, and there's a little inlet maybe 3/4 of a mile north from the rock quarry where the channel cuts right in almost to the bank, which is a bluff. I tried KY Lake Blood River nightstalking for the first time Friday night. I have it down pat at my "home lake" in IL and we catch limits weekly. but those are wimpy 9-10" fish compared to the KY lake bruins.
I set up on a ledge in 20-25' of water. We had zillions of shad, maybe too many. I don't know if that was it or not, but we caught 7 crappies, 6 of them legal. Caught lots of yellow bass, broke off on several drum, and one big gar.
Was it just a bad night? Has anyone mastered nightstalking on this lake. Can it be good?
I think I'll try turning off the lights or using less...too many shad I think.
Well, I'm still new to this nightstalking thing, (Saturday night was my third trip ever) but as far as numbers of shad go, it doesn't seem like you could get too many shad, I wouldn't think. Maybe one of the other guys could chime in on this. Did you all catch 'em on minners or jigs?
