A little less than usual.
With a lot of stuff going on that’s working on my shining disposition, I needed a bit of water time to realign the head. Woke at 2:30 never to be able to get back to sleep and finally gave in and connected at left just after 7 with no coffee. Didn’t dare get more energized. I started close to launch and was quickly rewarded with a start of a slow walking pace that was my day.

And this fella followed two casts later and really gave me a hard time.

I got a few more on the bank I started on and found some beds that were mostly empty but a lot of the bigger pretty boys were hanging around making me think it was their time to do the dance.

And they fought well also with some having me believe they were good CNBG’s before I got to see them.
Once again the crappie had been worked awful hard and I noticed that the river was starting to get some more flow from our recent rains. It’s time for our afternoon rain pattern and it hasn’t disappointed, in fact it’s raining while I post this. Most of the fish I played with last week weren’t home today but I did find a few on some beds I try not to work too often.

Not many but those that were there were nice and in an effort to keep interest from passing boats down, I threw many back without pictures. Long about now my phone rings, which never happens unless it’s my Queen. It was Theo, one of the guys I work with. He was at the park where I launch and wondered if I was doing any better than he was. He’s always welcome in my boat and that’s what the conversation led to so I wrapped up and went to find him. With him in the boat I had to be careful where I took him. He’s a meat fisher but he’ll respect my wishes while in the boat bu the knows folks with boats so I can’t show him my favorites. We fished together for about an hour and a half and while he connected with a few he got none to the boat. I got a small bass and a few gills by throwing the beetle spin. It was now about 11 and I’d had enough of the heat so we headed for the ramp. As we went we passed a small area with a few beds so I shut off the outboard and drifted slow into reach. I pitched one of my handties in and it was hit as soon as it hit the water, Theo couldn’t believe it. A hard fight and lots of drag music and who did we find on the end of the line but this gorgeous, fat thing.

Close but not over ten inches he topped of todays catch in his cooler. Twice the fight of any other fish today. It had turned out to be a good day with less fish than usual but it’s not all about the numbers. Theo will get a good taste of his beloved bluegill he hasn’t had in months and I had none to clean when I parked the boat and plugged her in. Thanks for coming along. I hope y’all get out soon and find a few that put a smile on your face like the one I have writing this, reliving the day……Skeet,
