I am wanting to make my own glitter top coat, I assume that I would just use Protec UV Blast/clear? What type of glitter do I use? does Hobby Lobby have any that would work? There is one of those right next to my work.
thanks in advance!

I am understanding your wanting the glitter in your topcoat. It's been my experience that the glitter loses some of the luster once encapsulated in the topcoat. Which is why the Disco colors are so rough. What I do is coat the heads with Sally Hansen Hard as Nails, then dip in whatever glitter color I'm using. I usually then put another coat of Sally's on, but black seams to dissolve into a solid color. I go by Walmart craft section and get the multi-color sets of the micro-glitters, so the ones from Hobby-Lobby should work as well. Just use the smallest glitter, (micro). Hope this helps.
Do you heat up before you dip it in the clearcoat?
thanks
My clearcoat is Sally Hansens Hard as Nails Nail polish. It's like clear varnish. 90% if not more of the glitter you would get at Hobby Lobby, Micheals, or the hobby section of a Dept. Store will be coated plastic. Add heat and it melts.
I use Silver Prism Holographic glitter I got from www.pickapolish.com in size.004. Really fine glitter but shows up very well in a topcoat despite it's size and they have other color glitter as well. I mix mine with a clear high gloss powder paint and add some UV Blast for that extra uv brightness. Very happy with this combination.
Definately needs to be a fine glitter,,,from what I’m told anyways,,, most of whatever glitter I use is already made up from protec as a disco silver or gold,,,, just dip it in disco paint and right into a candy color after,,, makes a wonderful glitter type jig,,,all transparent types of candy paints work doing this ,so you can mix and make your own custom colors,,,
I've used every type of craft store glitter there is and haven't had a problem with any of it!! I love the Nicole brand glitter that AC Moore carried but they closed shop!! Always add clear powder to any mix's and whatever you do WRITE IT DOWN how much of each you used!!
