Strawberry moon copperheads

The reason for the post is 2 fold ....
one because Mudd and his copperhead post
the other because you need to be aware out there
we strolled out on the concrete on our RV port the other night
10 pm and bare footed and just looking at that night time sky
that strawberry moon was just about WOW nice
all WOW we was and just clueless about the other surroundings
got done chit chatting and gazing up at the sky and then ....
looked down and there was the real deal ...
not one of them "it's a copperhead" grass snakes yawl
the REAL DEAL and was super unfriendly ...
they normally seem to run off ...
not this one ! it coiled up quick and started STRIKING over and over at any movement ....
for sure a bad idea on it's part and for sure a heart pumping situation ....
beware yawl , this episode couls have ended badly for us instead of the snake...
just saying ...
you night owl crappie guys need to watch your step ...:highfive

Never seen one as aggressive as that one bro and fast as lightning I tell ya , made me kinda skippy for darn sure :Rofl

Pretty cool snake even though they are venomous. Found a couple baby copperheads as a young teen and took them home in a coffee can and put them in an aquarium. Had them for a few months and fed them pinky mice. Younger brother almost got bit so Dad made be get rid of them. Miracle I didn't get bit now that I think about it. Released them back where I found them.

Needs a shovel to the head!

Beautiful moon and great footage of a nasty snake.

The ones around my place were crawling about at the start of the month. Killed a 3' copperhead that struck at me as I moved a plastic pot. It was a couple feet from my deck steps that my neighbor's granddaughter uses when she comes to look at the deer. It had to go. Caught (& released a few miles away) two more ~26"-28" in the natural area beside my driveway 3 days apart a week later. Haven't seen any since, but I'm watching out for 'em.

I’m a herper and when venomous snakes are out in the wild live and let live. When in ur yard with family and pets i prefer the cci snake shot in 38 caliber or 44 spl.

been a herper myself since I was lil and got beat regular for ketchn snakes , it is a sad day to have to dispose of one, venomous or not in my opinion , but to be sure of this , a venomous snake with a really poor attitude, hanging around our little slab of concrete out there where we play is not going to end up being a good day for the snake .
the 2 x 4 in the image made it quick and likely fairly painless , made me sad to have to whack such a beautiful specimen for sure , but sometimes it just is what it is ....

eastern versions are cool , but you would need to see the broad banded versions in this area to appreciate the beauty of the coloration on them , they look like velvet here and have some seriously hard core "copper" going on , one thing for certain , they are in numbers at our place and we rarely see one , they can blend in to an oak leaf woodlot like they were never there
