Beat the Heat
Got out early and fished a small deep lake before it got hot. Lake is catch and release only and there are lot's of small to medium sunfish. Caught so many gills, green sunfish and hybrids of the two species plus two small channels. Perfect lake to take my grandsons for the first time and get them started. Definitely a no skunk lake. Coloration on the hybrids was different.

This lake is a quarry that filled when they hit a spring. Equipment from digging is still down there. Using my 7' Shimano Soare BB and vertical jigging straight down and water right next to the bank is about 20 foot deep. Only fished it twice but haven't seen a bass yet. Happy catching the channel cats that were caught right off the bottom, tough getting jig past all the sunfish. Next trip will try some catfish baits and see if I can't find some bigger ones. Best part is it's 10 minutes from home and shaded until 11am. Temps today supposed to reach 103 with heat index around 110. Going to be indoors today.
