The perfect fishing trip
My 6 year old granddaughter, Isla, is up from Georgia with her family and one of the things on her list of things she wanted to do was go fishing with Grampy and Mr. Jeff. The weather for Tuesday looked promising, 73, sunny and 6mph winds. The plan was to be at Jeff's house at 7am and be on the lake about 730. Isla came wandering out of her bedroom at 5am saying she was ready to go and that she had dreamed of fishing all night. We stuck to our original time frame and when we launched at 730 we were greeted by a beautiful sunny but cool morning.
Once we had our lines set it didn't take long for Isla to reel in her first crappie of the day. It was too small to keep and after a few more smalls she got her first keeper of the day. Trolling jigs is a great way to keep a kid busy and she did a great job keeping all 5 rods going, with a little help. She could handle the shorter rods by herself but needed help with the 12'er's. Her first real nice fish was a big 13" crappie that she brought in by herself and I helped her swing into the boat. She ended up with 3 or 4 that were pushing 13" and a nice mess of 9's to round out our bag.
About noon her mother met us at the public beach and she got to spend a couple of hours jumping off the dock and swimming. I don't think the day could have gone any better, 21 crappie and 2 bluegills were kept, many more than that were released and she was the best boat partner a grandpa could ever have. Thanks Jeff for guiding us on our adventure.

If you cooked them up for dinner, that would be the perfect ending.

We did a couple of nights later. She eats crappie as good as she catches crappie.

Your a lucky guy. My grandkids could care less about hunting and fishing. :-(
