Warmouth Day
Plus a pair of PB’s. A great morning trip before the heat ran me off. I warn you ahead of time this might be picture heavy. This was one of the best short trips ever. Started slow as I put in early and they hadn’t woke up yet. This little feller wanted to know if I’d seen Gillchaser, right off the bat. First fish of the day.

And it just got better as time went on. I’ll give a short description of who came to visit and then give most of the pics. Halfway through the morning I found a bed or feeding area of good sized Warmouth and got 15 or more plus a few gills from there. One of those was my PB Warmouth at 10” and a little bit. Thought I had a good largemouth on. Most all were fillet size and dinner would’ve been fine. After they calmed down I kept catching gills and Warmouth and an occasional bass. The one I measured was 15” and the other wasn’t quite that big. The one I lost at boatside was every bit of 18” and over two pounds. Fought like it was possessed then threw my jig at me while I was looking for the net. This was the first time in over a year that my Office has given up more than a few fish. Brown was the color of the day and while I used other colors, brown did best. I’m counting a bison TM as the same color. So I’m close to my ending point where I pack up and go home and I’ve picked up my Pfenix 6’ul with a Presso and 4 lb braid with one of my little brown jigs. I threw it at the base of a cypress that looked fishy and hadn’t moved it much when I got the hit I was expecting. Everything after that I didn’t expect at all. I set the hook and the water exploded like a big bass and a topwater hit. The drag started making serious noise and then he came straight at me. Cranking like mad he went right under the boat and I got the line away from the outboard and went after him. Several times during this I don’t think the drag could’ve spun any faster or the sound gotten higher pitched, this thing was cookin! I followed and gained line only to lose it again. Finally I saw the leader knot and got a look and as y’all expect by now, big catfish. Got him to the surface 5 or 6 times and he left every time. Got the net in my hand as he was slowing down some and scooped him up. Best I can see he was 23”+ and had my little jig in the corner of his mouth. PB catfish on UL and I’m a happy boy. But now it was hot and I couldn’t end on a higher note so home I went. I’d been out less than four hours. Thanks for taking the ride with me, it’s been one of the best ever, and I hope to see you out soon. Til then….. Skeet

Those are some nice ones. I love to get into a good fight with a warmouth. I have never seen on that big around here, or ever really. Sounds like you had a great trip.

I’m with ya there. I get excited when they’re 8”. A nine and a ten on the same day is way good.

Awesome job. Sounds very enjoyable.

Glad you had a good morning!
Love the warmouth !
Those whisker fish are under rated fighters . Especially on UL !
My brother caught one had to be over way over ten pounds , on an UL outfit and 4# line . On a 2” curly tail . Had we not been in my boat and I was able to help chase it , he’d never landed it .
We didn’t have a net , so he used my towel to grab it by the mouth . Took both hands to drag it in the boat .
I just hate the slim ! LOL !
Beautiful fish !
