Interesting on how different folks view which are more important to leave alone when bed fishing spawning 'gills, males or females. There is a fella on YT by the handle of 330 Maniac who catches a LOT of big gills in MN and he emphasizes leaving the big males alone while the folks in the above video are happy leaving the females alone and to take the big males off the nest. I'm not saying one is right and the other is wrong, just an observation. Maybe a regional thing?
One is wrong and one is right. When you harvest only males you are depleting the genetics in the fish. Doing this allows smaller bluegill to come in and spawn. This gives you an inferior fish. They are called sneakers. Never met a fisheries biologist that doesn’t go along with that. It’s not a theory, it is proven fact.

A question for someone smarter than me. When fishing bluegill, shellcracker beds and practicing catch and release, does this interfere with the spawning process. I almost always catch and release but I've definitely noticed a huge decrease in catch when I hit a bed on consecutive day's despite releasing the fish. I've always wondered if by catching them I make them say screw this, and leave. Scott
Well done. Great video!!!
Great video, there is just something magic about watching that cork go down. i'm almost 67 and I still love it.
