4-9-24 Meetup ( made it )
After having issues getting to the lake yesterday, I wake up this morning with rain hitting on the roof .
Checked the forecast and it was supposed to be over in about an hour .
It didn’t .
When I left home just before 10am it rained off and on almost to the lake .
The forecast was for a cloudy warm day in the upper 70’s .
It was 61 when we arrived to an occasional drizzle.
In my fishing past , I’ve done better on sunny days . I guess that’s why gills are called sunfish .
I manage to catch a few small gills , a couple of crappie , several small green sunfish and three spotted bass that added a little excitement other than the one shellcracker that put everything else to shame in the fighting department. Love those crackers . And the green fish are always good for an ultralight battle.
Favorite rod of the day was a 5’6” St Croix Premier that started out with a Shimano Sienna 500 but I swapped the Sienna out for a Shimano Soare XR 500spg to make a super lightweight combo .
Dreary conditions , but still managed to catch a few to add to the enjoyment of just being outdoors trading fishing memories with a good friend .
BTW , my buddy caught eleven to my twenty one .
The temperature when I got home around 4:30 was back at 61 . My buddy who lives south of me reported a temperature of 71 . We must have been right on the frontal line .
