Power outage tying

Well, what do you do when the power goes out and the house is dark?? Break out the vise and start tying...
A bit of a story here. I was cruising the inter-web awhile back and came across a story of a man named Red Durham who at the time of the writing was in his late 70's (2010). He was an avid fisherman, and lived around the Ohio Pennsylvania line. He had concocted a jig that was made up of materials you don't normally find on jigs. A family simple affair, really, and depending on hook size, 1/16 #4, and 1/32 #8,s caught everything. He vertically jigged primarily, and after many years had became a master of the craft.
The materials he used was raw (washed), wool and strands of satin. That's it besides the jig hook and thread. Well, this peaked my interest, and I had to see it. I, the story there were pictures and it didn't seem too hard to tie. I'm including pictures I took off the computer from the story, and one I tied up while the power was off last night, by flashlight...it's supposed to be a copy of an emerald shiner minnow, or about as close as I could get. The first two pic's are his, and the last one is my first try at it.

Pretty interesting. I’m not sure all photos are shown. I’m sure it has great action in the water but for me I don’t like those long of tails. :twocents

I remember Red. Bought some bulk wool and satin and made some myself. He had quite a following before he passed. I didn't make many, still have the wool and satin.

i use alot of satin after reading about his jigs,. there is more info on past posts on jigcraft.com thats where i first heard of him
