Spider Rig Mount Question

I have a pontoon.... I built a DIY rod holder for pulling cranks off the back of the pontoon.... it has worked fairly well for a couple years, but starting to not be so great. At any rate, I'd like to have 2 sets of rod holders to mount off the back. I was looking at something like this Site Maintenance, but my question is this: If I attach that base to the back platform of my pontoon, is there an extension rod or something to be able to get the horizontal rod holder bar up high enough to clear the motor and make getting to the rods easier??? Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks in advance

Looks like to me you could get an all thread rod whatever diameter and thread pitch matches those in the base. I don’t know how strong it would be if very high as that could be a lot of leverage on it. If diameter is large enough you think it will work, then you can use some vinyl tubing to go between rod holder and base to cover threads to keep everyone safe in case of a trip or fall or whatever in the area of the allthread.

Is there not a rail to connect a set of rod holders to? You could always carry your rod holder bar and base to a machinist and tell him you want stainless steel rods a certain length to connect to your base and holder to extend them out. I'd rethink Driftmaster holders as it's hard to get a reel inside the holder and if trolling a gar of catfish could yank the rod and reel out of the holder fairly quickly. Dont ask me how I know this.:)

Friend of mine with a pontoon asked me about getting rod holders for it, like the ones I have on my boat that we used to Push jigs with ... and I sent her to here : Hi-Tek Stuff | Products For The Serious Outdoorsmen | Rod Holders She got two sets of the Elite V's for square railing, and I helped her mount them on her pontoon, with the holders angled out towards the sides. They're mounted on the transom end railing and she uses them to troll for Hybrid Stripers, Crappie, Bass, and occasionally drifts for Catfish.

My son wanted his rod bar to be high enough to place his rod holders for striper fishing so he used 1/2" galvanized pipe, elbows, and pipe flanges to put up a bar waist high (above his motor) all the way across the back of his alumimum boat and add his rod holders to the bar. He also pulls crappie jigs from those holders some too.

If youre going to be pulling cranks/jigs off the back of your boat you might be interested in some holders like these (reels sitting INSIDE holders). They can also be adjusted so your rods are pointed down towards the water...
