The H type
I have some H style buoy markers, but don't think I've ever used them. The other style I have are "bowtie" shaped, probably close to 50yrs old, and I did use them back in the day (when 2d sonar was "the" thing). Probably haven't used a buoy marker more than one or two times in the last 30+ years, but there's always a couple of them in the boat ... just in case they're needed.
H
Dumbell type unwinds in wind and waves.
With the addition of livescope I haven’t used mine either but I keep them in my kayak. Used to use them all the time to mark the structure I was fishing. I still prefer the H kind over the others. I painted mine to hide the bright orange which was like a beacon to anyone on the lake….lol.
I don’t think I’ve seen the stand up one but I have the H style. Got it at academy for cheaper than dumbbell style haha

I used the stand up kind sold by Blue Fox for decades. Then, when the ethics of fishermen changed I switched to H style. I got tired of being an unpaid guide for the fleet that surrounded me.

The only times I have used mine since livescope is when I'm building brush piles. Typically we will put out the buoy , hit a waypoint, then drop
bundles of brush on the 4 compass points around the buoy. we try to keep them tight , sometimes we succeed and other times we don't get
them as close as we would like.
but as to the original question , prefer the H shape.
