All the rods I have hanging in the shop and about half of them are light of ultralight. My mind doesn’t even go there when I pack up to go to the coast. That’s going to change, maybe next trip over. Mangrove snapper love small jigs and fight like crazy and that’s just one. I’ve got some fun in my future, I’ll keep y’all posted.

I take light rods to the salt water sometimes , smaller target species are big fun on light tackle in the salt water
crappie tackle is pretty good for inshore stuff in most cases , ladyfish , small snook , sheepshead , mangrove snapper , baby pompano , pinfish and trout ....

Light action rods , 1000 size reels , with mainly 6# line was what my brother and I used on our trips to the coast back when we would go three to four times a year . 1/8oz jigs and two inch curlytails were my go to baits . Favorites were the glow in dark Mister Twister and a black back pearl , small Sassy Shad .
More than a couple times I would slip an ultralight outfit into the boat with 4# test .
Biggest issue was the teeth cutting the light lines , but I couldn’t bring myself to use a wire leader .
A few times I took my 7.5’ four weight flyrod that I mainly threw handtied streamers back in the creeks at low tide . Caught a few trout and a couple of flounder on the flyrod .
Seatrout and flounder were my main targets , but we’d occasionally catch a few reds .
My largest was a 33” that took a while to wrestle in on a 6’6” Quantum light action rod .

Oh yeah! Ultra light and salty critters is a lot of fun. I use some of the same ultra light gear for salty critters but I up my normal leader size slightly. I do have some designated salty gear but it sure is fun catching flounder, pinfish, and whiting on ultra light. (Throw some trout magnets too haha)
I think a white or pink Trout Magnet with a pink head would work .
And everything loves chartreuse.
Main thing is good quality gear. Amazing what an experienced angler like you can do with high quality line and a smooth drag. Have fun.
When I go striper fishing I always carry a light rod to fish for perch after I catch my 1 keeper rock. Earlier in the year the striper bite was slow so I decided to go right to my perch spot.
Using my 6' light action Falcon Bucco rod and Soare BB reel with 2lb Nanobraid I start casting my 1/32oz roadrunner and hook into a 24" striper. Landed him without a net.

Tomorrow’s the day. I’m taking a 6’6” light action rod rigged with a 25 President loaded with 6lb braid. I’ve put a 15# leader on with an eighth ounce head and a SILVER glitter, pearl with chartreuse tail curly on it. I’m hoping for a trout with no class to grab it and head out. I’ll post about the day when I get back.
