I’ve read some pros and cons on swapping out a roller bearing in a small (500) spinning reel bail , for a ball bearing.
After some use , I’ve grown to like my 500 size Shimano Sahara and Nasci reels and found a kit available at Hedgehog .
I’d like opinions on whether you think it’s worth the cost and effort to swap out the roller bearing in the bail for a ball bearing .

Better bearings would likely be smoother. . That being said I have fished old reels that just had a metal wire. No bearing what so every
Not sure I’m understanding the question. I’m assuming you’re talking about the line roller assembly. I’ve never seen a roller bearing in the line roller assembly. Always been a bushing or bearings. I can tell you from my experience that line rollers with bearings are far better for line management. I started using reels with 2 line roller bearings back in 2012. Line roller bearings really shine when using very light lines. Then you have the Japanese Masters reasoning for line roller bearings. The term called winding sensitivity. They believe the sensitivity not only comes from the rod but the reel as well. The lighter the reel and the smoother the operation the better the sensitivity. To me it would be worth it but all of us are different. In the scheme of things there are very very few of us who use light lines of true 2 pound test and even lower. I can’t imagine fishing some polyester line that breaks at 1.8 pounds without a reel with a souped up line roller system.

Thanks Randy . I was calling the bushing a roller bearing .
I knew you’d be able to give me what I needed to make a decision.
Now I need to order about eight kits .
Might save this for a winter project.
What about handle bearings ?

All my reels have them. Many I did myself but the last few I have ordered came with them. It makes a big difference in the feel. I recently sold two reels to a prominent guide out here. He had never realized just how smooth a reel could be. I noticed on a recent Cole and J video that the guide let them use his outfit. Which was an Abu Garcia Theta that I had sold him and a Major Craft Days rod that I had told him he should get. I noticed when J started fishing with that setup she didn’t put it down. This can be a curse when one starts using better gear. You just don’t want to go back to what you were using. At least I don’t. [emoji23]Quote:

Victor on i-fish YouTube has the opinion that’s it’s not worth the effort or cost . I was just looking for another opinion.
After fishing with my Presso and my Soare XR’s , it does take a little getting used to the others when I take them out .
Cole and J are another one of the YouTube video producers I follow .
Most of their videos I can watch , but with the bait fishing and bass episodes I lose interest and switch over to some of your old videos , especially the panfish ones .

Thanks much for watching. I’m just waiting on the boat to get things back going. And I’m pretty sure I will be spending a lot of time on Bald Knob Lake chasing shell cracker and learning the lake. I’ll trout fish a lot too but the lake is close by and I know for a fact it is full of crappie, although not sure how big they get in there. Pretty sure that it is chock full of shell cracker but will have to fish it a few times to come to a final conclusion on that. Victor took me for lunch the day before we headed out to Arkansas. He is now fishing every spot I had[emoji23] Of course I told him about most of them. I watch him just to see what’s going on at my old haunts and we communicate every so often. As to whether it is worth it to upgrade or not I guess that is a personal thing. I do know Victor don’t want to give up his Vanquish though….LOL. I’ve run into Cole and J a couple of times out at Trout Magnet facility. I was the one who told Jeff Smith about them. He had never heard of them. Now they have a deal with TM. Like you I watch them if it is a panfish video, or trout fishing. But the others I pass on. I have to say though they have a huge following and are really doing well. I noticed they now have a videographer. He has given me an invite to come and fish and I may at sometime take him up on that. I do plan on getting back to buying some more gear to review but I’m still spending a lot on the new home and yard. Major Craft has a new Banshee made with some pretty high tech blanks. Really want to get my hands on one of them to compare to the older Banshee.Quote:
