Weekly meetup 9-15-23
With the threat of rain we met up at one of our favorite boat ramps this morning around ten . Overcast with temps in the low seventies. Nice !
It sprinkled o us a few times , but the rain held off until just before 3pm and we parted and headed home .
The lake was down , way down ! We’re talking , winter draw down level .
They dropped the lake right after Labor Day weekend to start repair work on the dam.
This wasn’t good for fish of any size , but the draw down concentrated the little green sunfish in the riprap along the boat ramp making for a numbers day .
I fished my hand tied tungsten jigs , while my buddy caught most of his fish on a 5’9” 2wt flyrod and his handtied flies .
I caught 57 total fish, mostly green sunfish , but with three small bass and a couple of shellcracker joined the fun . While my bud caught 51 .
Tiny fish but a lot of fun !
I took four rod combos, fished all four , my favorite being 5’6” St Croix Premier ULF2 paired with a Shimano Soare XR 500spg and 2# Floroclear .
The shellcrackers were caught on my 5”4” SC Panfish paired with a Shimano Soare XR c2000spg . And the only fish big enough to photograph with a rod .

Thanks for taking us along!

NICE! I’ll take some numbers like that. The rod in the first pic looks good too. I believe I have a variation of that grip/reel seat on one of my rods, comfortable. Don’t think I’ll be going this weekend but I’ll post if I do.

Nice variety! NOT small at all this time of year and they looked well fed. Thumbs up!
