LVS 34 question

Now that my doctor has allowed me to return to fishing after this last back surgery, I am thinking about upgrading to the LSV34 transducer. I talked with a Garmin tech who recommended I buy the entire system instead of just buying the new transducer. He stated this way all the components of the system would be new and age at the same rate. He suggested I sell the current system to cover the difference in cost.

After thinking about this I have decided he is probably right but am not sure I want to sell the old system. I am thinking about keeping both systems on the pontoon. Which brings up the question of the best place for both systems.

I know I will place the new system on the bow, as that is where I do my fishing. But I am trying to decide whether I should have both system on the bow. By placing one in front of each fishing seat I would have wider coverage of the front of the bow.

Or should I place the 32 unit of the stern, to be used by the two rear fishing seats. It would also allow me to have Livescope on the console, since the transducer would always be in the water.

One negative to doing this is that it is rare for anyone to fish from the rear fishing seats. So the main advantage would be having it on the console when I am using the main engine.

Since my opinion swings back and forth on the best solution I decided to ask for input from forum members. What do you think would be the best use of the old unit and why do you think this would be the best way to go?

How do you have your current lvs 32 mounted? Is it on the trolling motor or do you use a designated transducer pole? Do you always have two or more people fishing with you? And you stated if mounted on the stern the Transducer would always be in the water. Would this be by a hull mount or what? You may run perspective mode not sure. Just a few questions to help others out to give you a better response. Sounds pretty busy in my simple mind. I would sell the old and upgrade. I'm not even sure the pros are running multiple transducers with FFS. I'm not really in the loop so to speak though. I know some have 3 trolling motors.. [emoji23]

I would mount a pole right by the driver seat. One guide I went with had this set up and it was great. He never got out of his seat to deploy it and it ran to his helm graph. This allowed him to confirm if fish were in a spot and confirm what he saw on side imaging with more confidence. And he didn't have to get up and go deploy trolling motor or a pole on the bow and could steer and adjust throttle while scanning.

I have the current system on a designated pole off the trolling mother. So it is only in the water when I am using the trolling motor. If I go with both of front I will have both on designated poles that do not move with the trolling motor. I will use a pole mount on the back unit if I place it thee. But it will be in the water all the time along with my GT52 transducer.

I prefer to fish with friends but will be fishing by myself here until I find some new fishing friends.

I use forward mode most of the time. I don't use perspective mode as my preferred method of fishing is jigging.

I didn't mention it but I have an echomap 126 that I use on the bow and two 93 sv units that I will be using. One will be used with 32 transducer and the second will be used with the 52 transducer on the console.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had not considered this option. It would be handy to aim Livescope at what side scan found. I have seen a couple of guides on YouTube with it set up this way to help direct clients in placing their jigs. Since I would not be telling pople where to place their jigs it did not occur that this would help me.

But it would probably be a more useful option that the rear fishing seats as they are seldom used. They were mainly used in the past when the boat was in the marina and people were fishing for catfish in the open water between the slips.

I would mount both up front and do like some tournament guys and mount the new as forward facing and then setup the older as perspective mode. The good thing is you have options with two units and can change or switch as you want.

We have installed a couple dual setups on the trolling motor for customers.One on tje trolling motor barrel and one on the shaft works pretty good with little interference with both in forward mode.Since you have one on a pole i would do another pole upfront or trolling motor shaft.I personally wouldnt mount it any other way.Hers a pic of the 2 we mounted on the trolling motor.Attachment 467345Attachment 467346

I have 2 of the lvs 32 systems. I normally fish an electric only lake so this is how I use them. One is mounted on the trolling motor shaft it stays In Forward mode. The second is on a pole with a ram mount that one is in perspective mode. I use it to search for fish then steer to where they are and get how deep they are with the forward one. It works fairly well. One problem is the ram mounted pole. I have the large ball and it will still move if I go to fast and ends up pointing down at an angle so it really isn't showing anything useful. Above 3 to 4 mph it starts moving.

If your going to have a pole mount in the water with the regular motor running I would think it is going to need to be pretty sturdy to handle the force of the water against it while moving.

I tried perspective mode.a couple of times and did not find it that helpful as I mainly jig fish straight down or cast the jig out around 10 ' and allow the jig to sling down.

The pole mount I will be using is a MK trolling motor shaft that will be fastened to the swim ladder with u-bolts if I go this route.. So it should be strong enough if I go this route.

I am going to check to see hard it would be to mount it by the driver's seat.

What is your reasoning for using both in forward mode? I know why I am considering doing it that way with both in forward mode, I am interested in hearing why you think both in forward mode is a good idea.
