Slow but Survivable Day on Louie
Went to Louie yesterday. Temperature was below 80 when I left the house! Water clear, nice breeze.
First spot I hooked a couple small crappie and the came off when I tried to swing them into the boat. Caught a bass on a jig and he made the team. Boat control was challenging due to the wind. Hit another spot and caught a gar on a jig.
Tried some more spots with no luck, then tried a steep bank with w fallen tree, and caught a small one.
Took a boat ride to try a few other places. One was a small tree in about 8 fow, and it was gone! I had marked it on my Hummingbird, but didn’t name it, so I couldn’t tell it from the four other waypoints in the area. Then tried a tree that fell in the water on a steep drop off. It’s the only cover for about a hundred yards of bank. Wind was blowing pretty hard by then, so boat control was an issue again. Finally threw a rope on a limp and caught the largest (or at least the least small) of the day. Trolling motor batteries were tired and so was I.
Glad it was “cool” enough to go!!
