A poll of sorts

I’ve replaced one of the 4 batteries on my boat with lithium. Getting all the goodie out of the other 3 before replacing. I admit, I am an over-thinker/worry wart.

I have a simple question, any of my fellow fishermen-
Have you ever had a lithium battery or batteries let you down on the water?

If so, please give a little info on the cause? This is mainly geared towards making up my mind as to whether to go with 36V trolling motor batteries, or 12’s in series. I fish relatively close to the ramp, but it would be a mess still if my motor wouldn’t start. The reliability of 36V battery chargers vs 12V is a concern as well. Thank y’all.

I believe I saw a thread here about a Battle Born battery melting the lug off on the wire after a very long full throttle troll. Don't believe it had much to do with the battery

I wanted to kind of leave it open, to all experiences - but I guess the boogieman that me and it seems a lot of other folks are leery of, is the deal with them locking up, the battery management system shutting down.
I’m curious of the possible causes, and how often it happens in the real world, out on the lake. If they run down to near empty, I think that’ll shut em off? Maybe an over-current situation, pulling too high a load? Or an internal malfunction of some sort?
If they’re properly sized for your application, I just can’t imagine it happening that often? But always keen to learn from other’s experiences. And I just like knowing how stuff works lol.

Just reading the Pro`s many like having 12 volts as if the BMS locks up there is usually always another 12 volt source on board to unlock the battery, where do you find a 36 volt source unless your running two 36 volt Life batteries. Some have said they lock up more then they thought they would but have to remember they push everything to it`s limit.

I've only begun to dabble in Lithium batteries, so I started with a Eco-Worthy 50ah & charger. My intention was to replace the series 29 lead acid battery I was using for my Livescope setup. I live in an apt complex and have to take & bring all batteries & removable equipment each trip, plus I live upstairs :Doh:

I charged the battery & went fishing, and the battery quit after ~6hrs running the LS setup (Box + 93sv). I was expecting a longer run time, but then I remembered that the charge icon was flashing at the top, so it may not have been fully charged (maybe 80% - 90%). I've since charged the battery up until the charge icon is to the top & the charger is in maintenance mode. Problem is, I haven't been fishing since ... due to other problems.

Whether or not the battery will be sufficient or not remains to be seen.

My Minn-Kota 220 charged up the AGM & Lead Acid batteries (green lights on) ... then I hooked up the Eco-Worthy just to test it and it showed both batteries NOT 100% charged. The only "con" on the charger is that it's not supposed to be used "outdoors". But if I have to carry my 11lb Lithium battery indoors when I'm lodging at the lake, I'm not gonna complain.

I have a 12volt 100 AH running my 55lb Terrova trolling motor. I have used it once. Fish wind and current for 6 hours. I used 25% of the battery. Impressive so far. More testing required. Work has been getting in the way

I have had all lithium batteries for trolling motor, electronics and starting my Yamaha 25 motor..no issues. If it’s peace of mind,,get a portable rechargeable jump starter to calmly with you. A lot of guys on bbc forum are using a Noco so check out places online like Amazon for best prices. Get one to fit the size of your motor.

I appreciate the feedback folks. I understand what several said about life getting in the way of fishing. Been the case here as well.

I’m still curious what causes these lock ups. I understand if you run it down so low it will shut off. Understandable, and you’re outta luck till you get to a battery charger anyway. I suppose if you’re hammering high bypass and exceed the continuous amp delivery?

Only used one Lithium battery . Bought a 32ah from Amped Outdoors. Dedicated to my black box and Garmin1242xsv. Runs all day powering both unit and black box . Had it since 9/20 coming up on 3 years with no problems .
