Hey Skeetbum
I dug around in my old rod stack this afternoon and found three old UL Berkley Lightning rods .
All are five footers .
This is the oldest one , it a one piece black blank , five footer and cast the mini spinner around 45’ in the driveway . 42+ on its first cast .
The other two are two piece five footer with cork grips . One black , the newer one is kinda platinum colored. These two have the thin wire type guides .
I get them out for a cast and picture later . The cork handle rods show their age and heavy use . The EVA has held up pretty good .
The driveway is covered in sun right now . Too hot to play . :) .
(BTW , the medical procedure I had this morning , turned out good .)

First off, glad to hear about the good procedure. I’ve gotten good news from my last few Dr visits, and my A1c is down enough that I’m now pre diabetic. I too know about small successes.
Now to the rods. Mine is a 5’6” with cork handles and has to be about ten or more years old. When I got back to Florida I tried to get another, I’ve got a thing for pairs too, and found that they had changed the rod and the new one was way softer and I found it unpleasant to handle. I hope yours are still in good enough shape to put an occasional smile on your face. I like the grip/seat on the one in the pic. I really enjoy mine but the line lay is really ugly between the guides. I’ve thought about adding a couple of guides and redoing it but if I haven’t broken it thus far with 5 lb bass and other bigger fish I’m not sure that it can be broken. I scrubbed the cork and put some new line on It a while back. Took a rag with some acetone on it and wiped the blank and it looks really good. If you need any surgery on any of them to make em right, let me know.

I found a couple Quantum UL’s , a 5’ “ Teton Trout “ UL and a blue 4’6” UL.
May have to test them in the driveway .

One that always caught my eye but I never owned one was the blue Garcia that was 4’6” or 5’. It was a noodle rod and I’m not sure I would like it but it sure was pretty. My dad had one that I think was also a Garcia and it was so soft action that it was tough to cast with the reel and line I used back then. It was more brown colored I think.
