Using fresh bucktail?
I have access to a lot of fresh bucktail in hunting season, everyone around usually processes their own deers. My question is can I you fresh bucktail to tie jigs or does it need to be treated or something?
Thanks

You can also process them so they last for years: wash them with dawn dish soap, debone and clean all the fat of them, then mix a 1/2 lb alum with couple gal. water let them soak for 2 weeks stirring once and a while, rinse then with fresh water,
then dry.

I usually split them and remove fat then cover with salt and borax.
Works well.

Split and salted till dry. Dye if desired and dry back out
