what are some good ethier jigging or dock shooting crappie rods?
There's a ton of them out there ...
I like a 6' to 6.5' spinning rod with a fast to very fast action tip for dock shooting (I'd use my 6.5' ESP PowerLite for dock shooting, but don't fish lakes with stationary docks anymore).
I don't "vertical jig" per se .... but, when Livescope flippin' I do sometimes jig vertically ... I'm usually using my 12' BnM Diamond Series rod with a double jig rig, or my 8' Diamond Series rod with a single jig. But, I'm just as likely to use my 10' Huckabee Dipping rod with a single jig.
I mention these particular rods, because they're the ones I have ... not because I've compared them against all other brands available.
what size reel
Huckabee rods by Power Crappie are some of the best . I like the light weight 11.5' Stryker.
Whatever size reel will balance the outfit on my outstretched finger at the front end of the handle. "One size fits all" does not work in these circumstances. Not all reels in the same "series" of different brands (100/1000 - 200/2000 - etc.) will weigh the same.
Any outfit you're going to hold in your hand & "jig" with, or cast with (numerous times or over an extended period of time) needs to be "balanced" .... or you're going to be putting strain on your wrist/forearm and be uncomfortable using it.
I can tell you what reels I currently have on each of those rods, but some of those reels are no longer in production (and some I've tried to find out their weight, so as to find a alternative reel to use, but have failed in that attempt).
what is a good brand of reels
Outlaw rods are NICE
Shimano fx series that sells at walmart for 20 bucks are good little reels for crappie fishing. I have a bunch of them in the 2500 size & they've been great.
Man you can open a can of worms here, they are so many and everyone has got there favorite.
