Weekly meetup 4-26-23
Weather this morning was cool , low 60’s , cloudy with a slight chance of rain .
Wore my lucky sweatshirt today :) .
By the time my fishing buddy arrived at the lake this morning, I’d caught five , two small gills and three green sunfish.
I went on to catch 13 total including five green sunfish , three small gills , a shellcracker, and four spotted bass . All on Trout Magnets of various colors and most on my 6’3” Abu Garcia Mass Beat III paired up with a Shimano Symetre 500FL and 2# P-line .
A few were caught on my 6’ St Croix Avid UL paired up with my new reel , a Shimano Soare BB 500 filled with 2# P-line .
I like the new reel , it’s very smooth out of the box and winds with very little effort , but it’s not any sweeter than my Symetre 500FL . It does weigh .8oz less , but I couldn’t tell the difference in weight .
Both are great little ultralight spinning reels with great drags .
My biggest bass was a chunky , estimated three pounder that gave me a good ten minute fight . My second largest was a jumper , that came out of the water four times !
I love catching these hard fighting fish on ultralight.
My buddy caught fifteen fish this week that included a nice gill and three shellcracker, one was a nice one that stretched his SOS 2# line . Most were caught on TM’s . Yep, I’ve converted him . LOL!
His shellcracker is in the last pic. Caught on a 6’6” Quantum UL paired with a Pflueger President 20 reel .

Some nice fish! I’d like to wrestle with a few bass like that in the same day. I get them now and then but it seems I only get smalls when I get a few during the same trip. Thanks for the info on the reels, I still can’t get the 500 size out of my head. There’s one in my future, I’ll bet. Glad you and your bud had a good trip.

Nice catches. But you really need to put more of a smile on your face in those pics. Fishing times are happy times.
