I am making my own slip bobbers. Things are going well, but I’m having a difficult time getting a high gloss and smooth finish. At this time the bobbers are store bought foam.
1- Can a rotisserie be used, similar to rod guide finishing? If so, which type of slow curing paint?
2- Other than using a rotisserie, how would I best obtain the desired results?
3- Seems like the foam needs to been primed before painting. Can you suggest a preferred primer?
Any help appreciated…

I have played with various paints, using Tester Fluorescent paints for those pictured below

A YouTube search seems to recommend acrylic paints on top of a primer. And clear coat to seal and finish off the job.
I want fluorescent colors.
Which primer?
Which paint?
Which sealer?
Any recommendations?
I tried Gesso, an acrylic white primer that is used by artist as an initial application to prime canvas and other art boards. It is quick drying and somewhat thick. So I added some Flood - Floetrol to thin the paint in hopes of making it self leveling. It didn’t work as well as hoped.
Still looking for self leveling solutions that will level out on a rotisserie.
I haven't tried making foam floats yet, but have dabbled with corks from a local winery. I turn mine to shape on my tabletop drill press, then paint with acrylic craft paint using a small brush. Stand braced up to dry. Once the paint is dry, paint the whole thing with Minn-Wax Polyurethane finish. Let dry for 3-4hrs, then reboot. Propping up to dry 24 hrs. Ready to use...Attachment 455929

I like that. I’ve used a two part polytype coating like is used on cypress tables and it drip flows great on my cranks and has good work time. Tough finish too.
Thought I’d post a followup of my bobber conquest. Its been a little over a month since I got serious. Excellency is in the details, and I still have a way to go.
