Easter egg dye
I always wanted to try dyeing materials with easter egg dye so wife brought me home some and I tried a couple colors yesterday afternoon. Prepped some wood duck flank feathers, added one tablet to a tablespoon of vinegar and a half cup of water and popped it in the microwave for a minute. They turned out pretty well. Reminds me of a chocolate mint color. Probably would have been darker if I would have left it in the dye longer. Saved the dye for later since it still had some left. Six colors for 98 cents can dye a lot of materials and works with chenille as well.Attachment 453297

The color should stay in the feathers because of the vinegar and a cold water rinse. Only left them in for five minutes because I wanted to try another color. Second color looked yellow in the measuring cup but dyed some chenille and it was orange.

Never a problem with it as long as I used the vinegar

I tried the pink yesterday. First the wood duck, then some possum hair, chenille and then the mallard flank last. Notice how the colors lighten up as dye is used up. Great stuff for dyeing small batches.Attachment 453518
