Angry fatties attacking harder than whites!
I got out yesterday after it warmed up some and enjoyed the mostly windless day.
I drove around with my Active Target in the "scout" (aka perspective) mode for over an hour just learning my electronics. I finally tossout out minnows and it was neat to see all my bait fanned out around the bow. I saw a 12" crappie go from one pole to the next and leave my bait before swimming offscreen. Luckily he decided to try a taste on the last pole and that's how I know he was 12".
I trolled around chasing some fish, but mostly just watched them all swim away from me about 30ft ahead. I decided it was time to try another area and I jacked up my speed to about 1mph, and BAM another fatty grabbed on and tied up my lines so fast. I had to just cut and retie both poles. Picked up 4 more the same way. I thought I found a pattern so I kept going but only found whites and 1 more just over 9" but I tossed the little guy back.
I ran into a otter (muskrat maybe??). It was upset to see me and had plenty to say before I got to close and he swam away.... which is really exciting on a live scope. He casts a shadow that draws your eye away from him and makes you think they relocated the Loch Ness Monster.
I wanted to pick up dinner and learn my electronics more so it was a successful day in that regard. But "Scout" mode proved to be pretty much useless. In a little deeper water it looks like it might help to find catfish? Anyone found a use for scout/perspective mode yet? I wonder if paddlefish show up.
