Wylie White Crappie
I always get excited when I catch one. They probably aren’t as rare as they seem. I catch a lot that are so pale they don’t have distinct markings. I’ve always hear Blacks like clear water and Whites like dirty water. Yesterday I left dirty water where I was catching blacks and found some clear water out of the wind. Wow, we caught 15+ from a brush pile and all were Whites. They were Super Aggressive. Most were 8-10” and that usually what I get with Whites. The one yesterday was 13 1/2 inches. I’ve only caught one bigger and don’t have any proof of it!! LOL!! I was trying to measure it on my fish board. I was closing its mouth to get a correct measurement and it flopped over the side without getting a good measurement, weight or picture. A big tear puddled up in the corner of my eye. Was Wonder if anyone else has noticed an increase in the number of Whites caught???

I catch 1here and 1there on clark hill through out the year. They always are various sizes. But every now and again I catch a goodun. It seems I stumble upon them off the sides of points during the spring in a little deeper water.

I was nightstalking in Torrence Creek and caught a 15" white and within 15 minutes had a 15" black in the same spot. Other than that I remember catching 2 other 10" whites over a 10 year period.

I grew up fishing Clark Hill and have caught some very nice white crappie there and have caught them in both stained and clear. On Lake Hartwell I have only caught white crappie in very clear water. It’s not unusual to catch white crappie on the Hill in the 12 to 15” size and then you have days where you can catch them this size.
