Monday Meet up… nice weather
I got to the boat ramp around 11 this morning, my fishing buddy around 11:30 .
The weather was warm , mid sixties headed to seventy , partly sunny but windy as heck .
At the first ramp , the wind was blowing at us from around one o’clock.
Made casting difficult, jigging , even more so .
I made several casts with a 1/32 jig spinner with a Bobby Garland Slab hunter without any takers .
I switched over to a six foot Tenkara rod with a tiny spider fly and started working the riprap since the water was up about two feet . I wasn’t sure if the little green sunfish had moved back in yet .
But it didn’t take long before I had my first of twenty five I caught today .
All were small to micro size , but were a lot of fun on the super light Tenkara rod .
We moved to another ramp up lake that faced the north , so the wind would be at our backs . I caught several of the sunfish there until my spot between the rocks went dry and grabbed my 6’3” Abu Garcia Mass Beat III combo and started casting a 1/32 TM jig with a sowbug TM body with the tips dyed chartreuse.
After a few casts I caught my first bluegill of the year from this lake . A small one but a welcomed addition to my greenies .
It wasn’t long after that I hooked into something bigger , a lot bigger . Something I wasn’t sure of until I caught a glimpse of it once I worked it close I on the 2# P-Line .
Turned out to be a nice spotted bass about 15” . The best fish of the day .
I caught a smaller spot and a few more green sunfish at another ramp just before heading home .
The last four green sunfish I caught jigging my Trout Magnet around the riprap . I was surprised they could get that hook in their mouths.
My fishing buddy caught seven green sunfish and a small spotted bass.
Turned out to be an awesome day .
