I don't ls but a good place to begin might be bends in the channel

Also look for those bait balls. Schools of shad, usually they aren't very far.
Start shallow and work out.
As SD said bait balls are also good to find. They won’t be far away.
Even in the dead of winter they are sometimes shallow. 3-6 foot of water.
Not that your boat will be in that depth but the fish will. Wind blown banks and sometimes on the edge of main creek or river channel.
Time on the water brother!!!!
Once you find them the work starts on presentation, type, size and color.

Hard to beat a console mounted finder when searching for bait / fish
I would start with creek channels and ledges and like stated look for bait balls of shad. Humps in lakes would be good spots to check also. You are likely not to only find some crappie but white bass and hybrids also.
