Crappie/yellow bass 2/15/23
I had just awakened from my afternoon nap when Dr Phillip called and said let’s go fishing for a while. Since I was home alone and without adult supervision, I leaped at the chance to hit the waters of Chickamauga reservoir.
We didn’t have much time, 3:30-5:30, but the fish were on fire. We hit shallow water near the backend of a long slough and got on the fish right away. We started off catching yellow bass and we were throwing fish that were big enough to fillet in the livewell. Toward the end of our time to fish the crappie showed up and we ended up with 6 keepers. 3 other crappie were not big enough so back they went in the lake with instructions to grow up. We kept 33 yellow bass for the freezer.
We fished in 4 feet of water around stumps with our floaters set at 2 feet. Slab Hunters in 5 different colors caught the fish. Lights out was hottest color for crappie, but pearltreuse was best for yellow bass. A couple of bluegills got in on the fun too.
