Broke my trolling motor rope today

Got out this morning and when I was deploying the TM, the rope broke. I had read a list of things pro fishermen keep on their boats and one of the was an extra TM rope.
Yep, I had one. Putting it on while in the boat, that's a whole other thing. :Rofl
I was able to deploy the TM without the rope and could use my pliers to reach the remaining rope in their boat. Well, after I had to motor about a mile with it down because I couldn't see to do that from inside the boat! :dono
I suppose I could have pulled to shore much sooner, but I was mapping the river and watching my side scan on the way back so I didn't waste a slow cruise down the lake. :crazy:

Oh, and not one single bite. they were not to be found where I had hoped they would be.:banghead

I looked into one of the cables years ago. I never did get one. A broken rope isn't much fun

Had that happen on my boat and then on my buddy's boat ... had to fix both while in the boat, on the water. Not fun. Both were eventually replaced with G-Force Handle/cable. :check

go to pro cord.com for the stuff to fix it right.

I used some good quality nylon rope and called it done. The moral to this story is when you see a fuzzy spot beginning, it’s time to change it. Glad the breakdown didn’t ruin the trip, even if the fish didn’t cooperate.

Sir CrappiePappy is on the money once again, Get the G-Force you will thank him for pointing you in the right direction. G-Force is the Bomb.

I got lucky and saw the fuzz on mine.
Repaired it with coated cable I had saved and used 1/4 in nuts for crimps.
Will probably outlast the motor now.
Side note there are a couple of sharp spots on Minkotas that wear on the rope/cable, these need to be smoothed with Emory cloth for best results

Yep mines broke while chasing white bass. I installed a coated stainless steel cable and handle made for lawnmowers (alot like the GForce handle). It will outlast my trolling motor.

I swapped my rope out for Paracord. Never had an issue after that.

I used the bull tape that power companies use to pull underground cables through pipe. Made from Kevlar. Have never seen a piece break. Light thin and flexible
