PB .... the Cabin Creek Pop-Eye jig, the one I'm most familiar with, is a simple jig with chicken feathers tied on with red thread. From what I've gathered looking at other brands, they're pretty much the same deal.
The Dale Hollow Crappie Slayer is made with craft hair, tied with (primarily) red thread, on a 3/32oz jighead.

I’ve seen a lot of new guys tying what they call a Popeyes jig which Usually consists of a small hook and a giant 1/4oz pill or round ball jighead,,, is that what your talking about?
I was told Years back it was a white head with a large eye and why mine is 1/32. Worked like crazy for me. Mine is not new as the one in the pic was from 2008.Quote:

The original "Popeye Special" was made by Byron Leonard from Rogersville Tn. His jigs were made of chicken hackle tied on a lead head fly hook. He made his own molds. I bought a lot of popeyes from him. He thought the angle of the fly hook eye was what made his popeyes deadly. 60 degree, as opposed the the 90 degree angle of most jig hooks, makes the jig do something different. DHT crappie slayers are made of craft hair.
