As said…black nose. Started stocking them in Old Hickory about a year or so back. Make the short drive up to Center Hill and you can see just how big black nose get. Center Hill has had them for about 32 years. I think all but one these are black nose…Caught out of Center Hill. Attachment 447352

I’ve caught a few with the black strip, but I just learned something new about it being a Black nose. Never to old to learn something new.

Actually, TB ... a Blacknose Black Crappie is a naturally occurring member of the Crappie family, while a Magnolia Crappie is a lab created hybrid (Blacknose male x White Crappie female). Blacknose are native to over 20 states, and have been stocked in certain waters of many other states. The Magnolia Crappie is only stocked in small waters of the Magnolia State (Mississippi) as a "put & take" resource, considering the fact that the Magnolia Crappie are (for the most part) sterile and won't overpopulate the smaller state & state park waters. That's the way to dial it in for us Sir CrappiePappy. I catch them all the time in our rivers but never considered they were not the MDWFP's fish. Too much other stuff to try to keep straight.
