Kayak Trip Report, Cotaco Creek

I returned to Cotaco Creek today, repeat of Friday except the fish were biting better and they were a little shallower (around five to six feet deep). I kept half a limit of little ones for the freezer and returned numerous shorts and a couple limits of larger fish. The water had also warmed to 45 degrees. I'm hoping most of the rain misses us this week. Cotaco is just where it needs to be on temperature, clarity and water level. I'd hate to have heavy rain to blow it out for a week or week and a half. Lots of folks on the water today also, probably better than two dozen boats in Cotaco.

Great way to start the New Year!! Congrats DB on another fish slaying outing.

I wanted to circle back to this post on an observation and just haven't had time.

Upstream of the bridge I ran into an angler fishing from an older fiberglass boat. He was standing on the bow and using a foot-controlled trolling motor but had a long jig pole in both hands dabbing laydowns as he moved along the bank. The wind and current wasn't bad, but there was some. I struck up a brief conversation as I passed him on the opposite side of the creek. Spider rigging open or mostly open water with rod holders is one thing but dropping a jig six and eight feet into heavy cover WITH TWO HANDS SIMULTANEOUSLY :notworthy is a different level. I don't think I've ever seen anyone with that level of concentration and boat control. Not sure if he might be a member here or a lurker but wanted to do a shout out on some impressive skill regardless.

Pretty sure I would end up at the bottom of the river.

My though too, I'd be dealing with both poles hung when I ran into a log and got tossed out of the boat, LOL!:Doh:
