Just say no to Berkley Cherrywood Rods

I hate 'em. They suck! Just my opinion!
Bought one a year ago and liked the action and casting. I broke it at the joint trying to horse a jig out of some structure. MY BAD! Salvaged what I could and superglued the joint together so it wouldn't break again. Well, that failed last week. Rod snapped in half good that time.
Replaced it with a brand new one the other day. Put my jig on the hook-keeper thingamabob and tightened up the line a little. SNAP! The tip broke.
Now it's holding up my dieing tomatoe plants! :rolleyes:

I figured the rods either suck or I'm too rough on rods. So I went down and bought an ultralight uglystick to replace it. Shouldn't have to worry about it anymore hopefully.

That ain't good. I sure like their Lightning Rods. Have seen but never bought
a Cherrywood. Yur kinda a glutton Skid, you sure ya wanna treat a tomato
plant like that?:p I did a horse just outside Hartfield in Middlesex Co. this morning would look good with just the rod handle sticking out enuf to prop its' tail up a bit.:) If you send me any future broken rods I will film the insertion and at the end of my instructional video "Harmonizing Yur Horsey"

I am hard on rods so when rods break I do the exact same thing. Ugly stik and then don;t have any worry about it from then on. As dense as I am I learned to just cut the line now most times instead of my rod snapping get it out at all cost technique I perfected for years.:)

I love my Ugly stick, it is 12 years old. I'm looking to replace it with another one just like it.

I had the same thing happen to both my 10' Wally Marshall BPS rods. Luckily it's only around 3" to the next guide hole so now I have two 9' 9" Wally Marshall rods. I've been told you can't get replacement tips for these rods so I'll have to live with it. B & M sent me a free replacement for one I broke (12' rod) when I bought two more rods. Of course I managed to break another upper tip so I had to order one this time and it cost me $15 which isn't bad considering the whole rod cost arournd $50.

I feel ya man. I broke a nice one piece Mitchell rod this past w/w in Roanoke. I got hung up, had the drag set tight and when tuggin the line the rod up and split on me. I said the heck with it. That's two of their rods I've snapped so no more. I guess i'll get me an ugly stik down the road. I've got too many other rods already the War Dept. wouldn't approve the cost of a new one. Seems I have a hard time keeping anything over 6 ft that long. Can't seem to break the shorter ones......

looked at the cherrywoods the other day - had a bad feeling bout them even though the action felt okay - the BPS tourney special is a good rod - I catch them on sale for 39.00 - normal 49.00 - I use the 6'6" med light - great action and plenty of backbone - I use them for casting and inshore saltwater - have landed 40lb skates and 10lb puppy drum - I like the 1 piece but travel reasons get the 2 piece

My buddy broke three Ugly Sticks in one week, cut one off at the handle with the parking brake lever of a Pinto, blew one up horsing a snapping turtle at Lake Joyce, blew the third trying to mimic the add bending it tip to butt. They say their unbreakable but they don't say anything about being McCullough proof.

I have two cherry woods and have gotten good service out of both. The lightest action rod works great at shooting jigs or fishing under a low bridge. The next heavier action will cast jigs great and has the backbone to handle a slab. I have trolled with mine and been abusive and have been satisfied. CF

I liked the action a lot also but I guess I need a stronger rod. Thought about writing Berkley about the one where the tip snapped off. Just bought the ugly stick instead. Hopefully no more problems.
