Town pond after the rain.
I got in a short trip to the town pond this morning.
Nicole left us with a needed rain , but it was only enough to raise the little pond about a foot . But enough to freshen up the water .
Took the 5’6” 13 Fishing Omen Trout and Panfish rod paired with a Daiwa Legalis LT 1000s.
The weather was mostly cloudy with temps in the low 60’s with a cold front due after lunch .
I figured the drop shot was going to work , since it did two days ago , but after thirty minutes of casting both plastics and some hand tied flies and jigs , only one thump was detected that resulted in a tail-less Bobby Garland Itty Bitty swimmer.
I decided to try a float and fly thinking maybe the gills were suspended rather than on the bottom.
I tied on one of my rubber legged spiders and put a 3/4” weighted snap on float about two feet above it l
With the fly being unweighted except for the hook weight a slow crawl with a lot of pauses would allow the fly to rise , then float back down .
It worked !
In the twenty five minutes I had left to fish , I caught three gills .
You just never know what’s going to work .
Wished I’d taken a few spoons with me , I think they may have worked.
