Dumb Question

Yesterday I got to the lake and began fishing my first location.
As usual, fish everywhere as expected.
First drop, fish on.
I thought oh no, gonna be a BAD day from my old bass fishing days.
But no, I continued to catch fish for a solid 2 hours on almost every drop. They were actually chasing my jig about 2-3 feet and choking it.
And then they stopped.
Changed jig colors about 5-6 times.
Moved to my 2 location and again, lots of fish and maybe caught 1 or 2.
3rd location with the same results.
First experience with this happening and wondering why.
Information: they were pulling the lake and appeared it was down 6 inches to 1 foot from the time I started and when I left.
Thanks for any input or experiences others have had of similar nature.

I don't think there is an answer. I've had them just quit biting. Sometimes color or size change keeps them going, sometimes not. No rhyme nor reason sometimes to these finicky fish.

You ain’t never gonna figure the reason for that…and no one else is either. It happens…especially with crappie. I’ve placed myself in riprap on a bank and caught 15 fish in row…then then nothing for next 7 hours. Then catch another 15 to finish my limit. Experienced this many times…and same fishing from a boat. Years ago a friend brought an Aqua View to a spot where we bank fish and slay the crappie by the tons. We were catching on every cast…then they stopped. His thinking was they left…my bet was they were still there. Dropped the camera down and crappie were everywhere. No matter what we tried not a hit….then 4 hours later limit out. For the past 7 weeks been trout fishing on a gin clear river. They do the same thing….but not as often as crappie do it. Seeing multiple trout swarming around your lure yet not take it is very frustrating. Then a few hours later a trout on every cast. Crappie are gonna turn and turn off….no matter color or lure. When they are in the shut off mode you just have to wait em out. Up until about 4 years ago I would wait them out. I no longer spend 10 hours on the water. Now a days if it don’t happen in about 4 hours I’m gone.

In my experiences ... it can turn the bite off. Falling water can force them deeper and/or away from the bank. It can make them lite biters during their location change, too. Slow falling water levels may not cause a drastic change in the feeding behavior, but a fast drop in water levels certainly can. Lots of other factors could also be at play, also.

I bet the barometric pressure changed and gave them lockjaw.

I've had days where a spot only produced a fish or two and you had to move on. Come back, and get another fish or two. Other days where you could fish the same spot all day with non-stop action. It just happens.

No clue , but for sure seen it a zillion times . Dropping water levels that quickly could for sure be the culprit though.
Or it could have been that coupled with 27 other variables. Was 2 fish from a limit of 25 monsters one afternoon waiting for my buddy who was running late , when he arrived we went right back and struggled for the rest of the visit and left with 27.
To this day it sticks in my memory, they bit Every drop and where just whoppers in herds on timber and even though they were still there when we got back a few minutes later , it was like there wasn’t a fish down there :dono
