Pre work fishin fix
I picked up a renovation job in Hawthorne and I've been thinking about doing some pre work fishing before I start at 9 a.m. I decide to drag my flat bottom saltwater rig over to fish the smaller lakes in the area. No fish finder, no gps, first time on these lakes. Monday 10-31-22 I arrive at the Holden's pond ramp at 6:45 and start loading the boat up in the parking lot. I had just pulled the injectors off the tohatsu to clean them so this was the first time I've tried to run the engine since. I always try to crank the motor before I launch just to make sure and I'm glad I did. With no fire and fuel pouring out of the cowl after a few cranks, I end up pulling the injectors off right then and there to find I had broken one of the o-rings that seats it into the fuel rail. Amazing how a $0.23 part will prevent a $7000 engine from running [emoji1751] It wasn't to far from the ramp through the canal over to little Orange lake so I just used the trolling motor. 7:30 I made it out to the bigger lake and put out a spread of 12 rods. The fog was crazy thick, once I got into the lake there was just the dim haze of the sun to use as a reference point. Using my phone's Google maps I started trolling towards the middle of the lake. I immediately started catching specks, most of them being under the mark. It seemed the farther away from the bank I was the less bites I had. It took me almost an hour to get to the middle of the lake and then it dawned on me that I had to be at work at 9, which wasn't gonna happen lol. I turned around and trolled straight back to the ramp and I managed to get the boat on the trailer by 9:30, 17 total fish caught with 8 keepers. Here's a few pics showing conditions, fish, and my filthy boat haha

Went out again this morning and tried Johnson's Lake in the middle of Hawthorne. This lake is pretty small, so I started at the ramp at about 7:00 and trolled 30 yards off the pads in a big circle. Bites were in 2's or 3's at a time it seemed, but when I loaded up at 9:00 only 6 fish made the box out of 22 caught. It's been pretty interesting fishing these smaller lake with no electronics and having a 2 hr deadline adds to the challenge to succeed. I have replaced the o ring on the engine so I think I'll go back to little lake orange tomorrow morning and try to dial those fish in now that I have an idea where they'll be hanging out. To be continued...

Good job on the fish and the smarts to get it done. Like the little boat. I tried to get a club I used to belong to into a tourney with only one rod with plastics and no electronics. I wasn’t popular for a while.
