SlabSauce/Beachball crappie
Never heard of Beachball? It is a color pattern I’ve been painting on my crankbaits for years. Beachball on c55 cranks was responsible for Justin and I weighing in over 14 pounds on the first day of the 2019 Crappie Masters National Championship in Sept on Grenada. Mitch at Pico became familiar with it then.
It took a while for me to convince him it would be a great bait everywhere. It’s been very productive on KY Lake and Lake Barkley for years for me. After I forced Mitch to fish with one recently, he relented. It is in Pico’s upcoming line of new baits.
Today I had a guide trip on Ky Lake with a gentleman from the Cincinnati area. He was not familiar with pulling cranks. We had a window of a few hours before the west winds were forecast to become a problem. After showing him how I sat my spread up and how my line-counter reels work, he quickly started seeing results. He is a veteran of crappie fishing but had never heard of putting liquid scent on cranks. I introduced him to Slab Sauce in the brush-on applicator.
I’d like to say we limited out on big crappie but that wasn’t the case. The yellow bass, lmb, short sauger, and drums made things fun. The crappie bite was tough but we were able to catch enough fish for him to have a couple of bags of fillets.
He was able to boat a nice Ky Lake 16 inch, 2-pound slab on a Beachball Pico slathered in Slab Sauce. Attachment 439041Attachment 439042
