What a beautiful morning we had this morning. The temp on the dash in my RAV4 said it was 62 in my driveway as I left to fish a couple hours at the close by County Water Reservoir.
Eight minutes later I was walking from the parking lot to the boat ramp and dock area with my 7’ Grimlin 3wt fly rod .
Today was a day to retry a couple of rods out of my collection that I wanted to see if I remembered how they performed.
The Grimlin paired with a Redington Zero 2/3 reel surprised me . It was better than I remembered it being .
These rods were made using American Tackle Matrix blanks and offered on line as a complete rod .
These blanks are used by custom rod builders .
After a little over an hours fishing I switched to my old Cabelas 7’6” 3wt Three Forks paired with a Zero reel .
Although a serviceable rod and I enjoyed fishing the Three Forks , it seemed slightly heavy , but would flat shoot the line out if needed .
We had a little wind blowing in toward the docks and I was able to cast to the bank opposite the dock . Something I haven’t done with my shorter rods .
Didn’t increase my catch any , but I always wondered if I could get bit by the overhanging bushes on the other side .
Fishing was great this morning but the catching wasn’t .
In two hours I only managed to catch six micro size gills .
When I got back to my vehicle I had a hitchhiker sitting on the window frame.
