Dodging the showers
The plan this morning, going on the weatherman’s forecast , was to go back to the creek and throw woolyboogers exclusively to try to catch a shoal bass .
I got about a mile from the house, headed south , and I had to turn on the wipers .
I turned around headed north back into town and the rain quit .
Quick change of plans , I headed to the town pond to get in some fishing time this morning.
The pond is still about two foot low , but the water looked better than it has the last couple of trips .
I first tried a 7’6” 6wt St Croix Premier rod with a four weight line .
Worked ok , but I had to get a good bit of line out to load the rod . Might be able to get by with a 5wt line .
Caught a nice bluegill next to the bridge and decide to swap rods as I was working too much to get off a cast .
Switched to a 7’ 4wt. Wild Water rod , I’ve owned for several years , like the Premier .
What a difference. The seven footer was like a wand in my hand compared to the underlined SC Premier.
I caught two more nice bluegills on woolyboogers and switched to a spider fly , but no takers .
I fished the entire dam side of the pond without a nibble .
Ended up with just the three , but they were nice ones .
