Fall can and often does, produce some of the better fish of the year . We are starting to see some BIG crappie in these parts . I haven't seen them up close myself , but the stories and images are starting to roll in .
One of my basically pro buds was livescoping some short water timber the other day and in 9 foot of water on old timber 6 foot tall and there were just stacks of slabs , his images blew my mind , lots of 2 plus fish and I just had to call and get the low down since he mentioned it was on one of my favorite local spots .
He is about as good as it gets when it comes to crappie in these parts and not for hire , he is looking for a 3 lb fish in this area and they are SUPER rare in the DFW , east of here there are a few, but in this area about ZERO . His best to date in this area is 2.7 and here goes the fish story ....
Seems one stump had a big fish on the top of it 3 foot under the surface , thought is was a plump bass and pitched his jig at it for grins , on the hook up it was on the surface instantly and green as it gets , fish realized it was hooked as they looked in each others eyes and then went berserk and pitched the jig back at him !
he don't bs and exaggerate "if" he tells you about the fish and he said it might have well been a 3 lb fish . said it made his eyes get large and heart skip a beat and he about never ever says that about ANY fish .....
just saying ya"ll
gear up for the fall run , the fish are really bulking up and getting ready for it and so should you.
