does anyone use a pencil float laying on its side?

I know this is kinda unorthodox, but it sure is helpful to detect bites at long distances.

I use a Rocket bobber and it does the same thing.

nope , makes me crazy (er) and if the bite is light you wont see it most of the time ,

I have in the past, and unlike Ketch I think it helps detect the light bites.

I am with Slab on this one. Old timers used to use porcupine quills for light bite fish. The only bite they will not detect is when the fish comes up with the bait

Hence the drives me crazy (Er) , crappie love to “ upbite” :banghead

A pencil float weighted just enough to make it stand is the best of both worlds. An up bite will cause the float to lay down and a regular bite will pull it under easily so the fish doesn't feel the float

I like doing this sometimes when the water is calm and the bite is light. I only use pencil floats.
