How well would they work & how would they stay put in current on a highland reservoir especially in spring?
Would probably roll with current unless silted into the bottom good. Stakebeds last a lot longer for us driven right into the lake bed. This can be done during a drawdown or with the use of a home made PVC driver.
Never seen many others driving stake beds but several fishing partners and I have driven hundreds of them . Easiest and cheapest way unless really deep .

I was once fortunate to have access to cypress stakes. We put these in with a custom made aluminum stake driver. 22 years later and still producing slabs!

I wonder how long cypress will last. I'm 70, my senior year of high school (1970) I helped my brother build a fence around his backyard. He found a sawmill that would sell him fresh rough cut boards. First a truck load of 4X4X14 to 16 ft post, all cut to 7 ft. They sat in buckets of creosote and diesel fuel for a month before concreted in the ground. A 1/2X6" hole was drilled down the tops, filled with oil and made caps from aluminum flashing. A load of 2X4X10 and 12 ft was nest, all cut to 10 ft. Most wood fences have a top and bottom 2X4, we put a center board in too. A load of 1X8X12, cut to 6 ft. He sold the house in 2000, fence still looked good. I drove by 2 years ago and it's still standing, starting to show some age.

Had a machinist friend of mine build it for me. A 3" aluminum pipe 36" long with a cap and threads welded on. Had several sections of handle. Really helped to have someone loading the stakes in the driver as that were put in.
Hardwood if staying submerged will last a very long time . Know of a few drove in hardwood boards beds that were put in close to 40 years ago . Last draw down were still solid but looked black . If they ever see air the wood starts to decay . We see stumps been in the lake solid after being submerged in 1942 . Never put them tall enough to reach air even at low pool and will last very long time .
