Crappie weekend

Hit up the spillway after Texas finally getting much needed rain. Then hit up a farm pond i stocked last year. Ended the weekend at the river and caught a dinosaur. Nothing netter than spending the entire weekend on the water Attachment 434350

They're protected in KY waters :

"They are ambush predators and their long body shape allows for quick movements to catch prey. While gars are generally avoided by both commercial and sport fishermen, they play an important role as a predator of rough fish species — carp, buffalo fish and suckers. Gar has a mild flavor and its flesh is firm and white, but gar eggs are toxic to humans.
In Kentucky, gar are considered rough fish so there are no creel limits or minimum size limits.
The exception is the Alligator Gar, which may not be harvested by any means, either by bow fishermen or by hook and line.

we have very few of the huge ones left in dfw , back in the day they were fairly common , it is well known you dont "gut" one in these parts as the innards are toxic , most split em down the back and take of the shoulders carefully . ate one back when myself and it was a rather tasty fish , like stated mild and white flaky meat .
so many harvested them for no real reason at one point in time , except photos and within a short few years they no longer roam in those waters.....actually miss seeing them surface along the rivers and in the lakes , real eye poppers when they get around 6 and up feet long
