Which Fish Finder?
I'm new to fishing electronics and the Fisher Marine that I picked up already has a Garmin Striker 5 CV and an Eagle ID-6300 mounted to the dash. I also have a Hummingbird Helix 7 DI, used once, on a previous boat that my buddy and me shared. Seeing as I don't have much experience with any of them, what would be the best one or setup to use for crappie?

Bird 7” be perfect for down and 2d to locate brush cover and fish 5” tends to get a little to small for me

Yep the helix 7 & if it's networkable you can always buy another good used one if you run across a deal & would be able to mark waypoints at the console & share them up front. Good way to mark brushpiles or schools of fish while idling& searching.

Its sounding like the Helix 7 is the way to go. Thats a great idea about the networking, unfortunately, this one is just the basic DI and doesn't have that feature. Maybe I'll be able to install it on the inside of the windshield, so I don't have to continually stand up to look over the top of the windshield to see the screen.

don't be too fast, the Garmin and Lowrance people haven't chimed in yet. Which one to use/get depends a lot on which one the poster uses and likes. There's so many great things on all of them that you need to hear from all factors. For instance, I've used "birds" for so long I don't think I could ever learn to use one of the others. "Just My Opinion".

I suggested the bird for what he has it’ll do the job for sure. That being said I’m a garmin guy myself for the last 5-6 years from hummingbirds. I don’t think I’ll ever go back. If he asked what to buy I’d say garmin. It’s a ford vs. Chevy debate never ending because everyone knows dodge is the way to go! Just in my opinion I’d rather use the bird over the striker garmin

Also if you are gonna purchase something new keep an eye on sales you can get into a certain brand 9” touchscreen DI SI 2D networkable for about $500-$600. Been some time since looking at the market but there’s only one brand that will get you all that for the price point. Sorry totally off your topic but something to think about when just getting going

HELIX 7 DI has dedicated DI, 2d and chartplotting (GPS, waypoint capability and contour mapping) ...
Garmin Striker 5CV has dedicated DI, 2d and GPS (waypoint capability on a blank background) ...
A possible scenario would be to use the HELIX for mapping capability and the Garmin for DI and 2d ...
Full screen “anything” is better than combo split screens ...
