Playing with the little guys
Made a trip to the creek this morning. I was surprised to find the water at its lowest I’ve ever seen it .
I caught three small ones on my St Croix Imperial 6’ 2wt flyrod and one on the drop shot using a Daiwa Procyon 7’ UL paired with a Carbon X 1000S reel and four pound P-line .
Last night I clipped the hook off some 1/32 jigheads to make some lightweight drop shot weights . It was an experiment to see if I could us an UL spinning rod and drop shot with my little spider flies to fish the creek . It worked , but I’d like to have had a little more current .
I think the one I caught on the drop shot was a green sunfish hybrid . Caught two redbreast and a bluegill .
I fished the creek for almost and hour and the drove to lake McIntosh to catch a few green sunfish . I caught four greenies and five small gills , one on the drop shot before I lost my fly and weight to the rocks .
It was 85 already when I got to the creek this morning. But a constant breeze made it tolerable. Looking forward to some fall weather .
