Good ole fashioned shad boil!

We pushed, pulled, cranked, and noodles Attachment 432140all over Pomme with little to show for it.

We finally had just enough light left for one last try. So I was checkin out Dooley bend on the graph and said this is where we should have tossed noodles, but too late for that. I bet the shad are stacked up in there though.
So we set out trolling and picked up a few nice whites. But when we got into the corner they started to boil. I cut the motor and told everyone to cast in and we picked up a couple more really quick but then it turned off. So we started to troll again. And again they started to boil. Something about the motor running spooked the shad and the hybrids liked it!
We pulled in 14 or so in the next 15 or 20 minutes and then it was almost dark and the fish were done.
My nephew had some kind of large floating crank that looked like a big shad and he just LOVED watching them chase it.

Pretty exciting when they white bass are churning up the surface!

Do you cut out the red or dark meat in those things before you cook them? I've had them fresh, never frozen and they were pretty good but had then frozen and didn't like the taste much.

I know a guy who uses white bass for a crab cake like recipe which is pretty good. Just curious.

Those are a lot of fun when you run across them, congrats on the catch. Got into one last year and one of them I caught had 3 shad plus my crankbait in it's mouth, those dudes are ferocious.

Red meat bad! White feesh good!

They’re a little flakier than crappie but if you loose the red meat I think it’s about as mild.
I can’t say I catch enough to declare freezing an issue, but I will say I seldom eat fish fresh.

I wonder if freezing before cutting out the red meat spoils the filet?

Hmm now you got me hungry, I might have to grill some fish tonight.

Yep, split out the red meat and they freeze just fine. Don't eat these fresh like walleye but they eat good after soaking 24 hours.

When I went out the other morning I looked up and almost went back in the house. I knew when I seen that big ole moon shining the bite was not going to be the same. Trolled for a good while just to get 8 crappie. Glad you found something to pull the poles. Looks like some decent sized whites.

When you say hybrids, do you mean, white bass and striper cross? only fished pomm two or three times so not much up on researching the lake.
