Early morning slabs
For the past couple weeks I've been getting out early to beat the heat. The 5-6:30 am slot has been producing very well, the bite is over by 7am. Custom swordtail jigs and square bill cranks are working. Most fish are in the 12-13" range with an occasional bigger one. Had a bat napping on my front porch, check out the horn. Wife wanted to use a fly swatter on it until I intervened, it was gone in the morning. Attachment 431829Attachment 431830Attachment 431831Attachment 431832Attachment 431833

Nice fish Jim, and the jigs you just tied! Awesome! Good pic of the bat. They’re having a hard time with some different fungus that attacks them and it will take out an entire colony. Thanks for giving him a pass.

Fish are actually warm to the touch right now. Been releasing everything. Last week got two that weighed 2.47 and 2.67. Not bad for a 5.5 acre city park lake made of concrete. I know there are bigger ones in there. I released a 17 3/4" black crappie last December from this lake. I hope I catch that one again this winter.

Nice ones jim and I was wondering if you were still going there. GFY and letting that bat be. They don't hurt anyone and do ketch a lot o night time buggies flying around.
when we rehabbed our ancient cabin in no mo we had a couple come out of the ceiling when opening new areas to redo. Would ketch them with a fishing net and let them go and then go close up the hole they came out of. then watch them flying around under the lights outside in the cool of the dusk and evening.
May have to join you some morning for a daybreak fishing trip. After ketchn so many this spring I've kind of been slacking on slab hunting last month or so after a sunstroke and then barking back but I'm all healed up now and ready to get back at it when it's not so dang hot.
