Trying to beat the heat

Got to the pond a little after 9:30 this morning. It was already 87 degrees , when I left at 10:45 it was already 91 .
Took my 5’9” Cabelas CGT 3wt that I finished replacing the grip and reel seat last night .
I had a 3wt line on the little reel , should have put a 4wt on it for the short casts .
I caught three gills in the last fifteen minutes of fishing .
I kept swapping flies until I found something that would draw more than a leg nibble.
I had to downsize to a size 14 spider.
Supposed to hit 100 today . Summer came early .

Good looking fish! Another vote for the one in the second pic. You did a nice job on the rod. Did you go from the bottom or strip the guides and go from the top? I think it’s the same grip I used on my Fenwick. They’re comfortable.

Bottom up . Although, with it being a three piece , the lower section only has a hook keeper on it.
The original grip was solid cork with a couple of sliding rings . I like a reel seat that will lock the reel in .
I used masking tape wrapped around the blank to space differences inside the cork grip .

it is scorching hot here too , most need to be inside by 9 ish , 10 is about max .....hot stuff for sure

Me too! That was a real nice job you did. We’re still pretty good up here in the NE with temps. Right now it is still in the 60s with reasonable humidity.
